With this work for mystery, science fiction, fantasy, or romance?
Yes to all of the above and more! Because this method is focused on a character-driven narrative with various plot structures, if you are writing a fictional story, this will work for you.
How deep into plotting will I get?
You will build the foundations of your plot based on the world and characters you build. I will provide frameworks that you can work with and guide you through applying them. However, the amount of detail in your outline is up to you.
If you lean more towards pantser, you might just have the key beats and plot points. But if you lean more toward plotter, you might outline chapter by chapter.
Either way, you will get the foundation to build on through this course.
What's the world-building like?
I take a unique approach to world-building, especially in this general capacity. I call it The Book Onion because we will go through the layers of systems that create any world: the social, political, cultural, and familial. There is also a lesson touching on specialty systems like magic systems and others.
This approach is very reflective. Instead of giving you all the answers, I guide you in finding the answers intuitively.
What's an Emotional Outline?
This is another unique approach developed by Writers Rebellion. The emotional outline looks at your character's journey of transformation and outlines what emotional or psychological changes need to occur at each phase of their journey to become their transformed self.
It helps you create characters that resonate and make sense to your reader, and helps you plot your story with greater ease.
Because when you know your character as well as you know yourself, you know exactly what to do to bring them to their end version.
